Often, I am out driving the van and something occurs to me that I should blog about. Of course, by the time I get home, I have completely forgotten what it was - or the reason why I felt whatever it was needed to be shared with the world. Hence me not blogging all the time. I do remember the one thing from yesterday that I wanted to share:
What's up with PA drivers, anyway? I am all about being polite when you're driving - I grew up and learned how to drive in DC - the only location worse than LA for learning how NOT to be polite while driving. And from DC, I went to Baltimore - also not a great haven of politeness. In fact, I learned in Baltimore that the key to switching lanes (at least downtown) was to NOT signal your intentions. Because if you did signal, the cars all got real close to each other and purposely wouldn't let you in (how rude!) Got real comfortable with that, actually - in my small Civic. Not sure I would attempt it in the minivan, but I digress.
So, often my husband and I are discussing the oddness of people waving you through the stop sign. It is clearly their turn to go, yet they wave you through. Meanwhile, I am mentally prepared for the other person to go and I am scanning traffic for the NEXT opportunity - not ready to take this one. And by the time I realize they were waving me through, we have BOTH missed our opportunities. Arg. If the other driver would just (GASP!) follow the rules of the road and take his turn when it is his turn, WE WOULDN'T HAVE THIS PROBLEM!!!
Ok, so now yesterday it got even worse. I am sitting at the stop sign, waiting my turn to turn left. Traffic from the right is clear, there are three cars coming from the left, the lead car is planning to turn right (towards me). No problem, I can see that there is ample space after the third car and I am hoping that traffic from the right will remain clear. Ok, plan made. EXCEPT, the lead car (the one turning) STOPS and waves me through. Eh?! It's not my turn, you nut! And when I wave him off, No Thank You, he actually HONKED at me. WFT?! Seriously, I understand being polite, but this was just downright weird! Am I the only one that thinks that? Maybe it's the whole DC/Baltimore learning curve, but I wish people would just take their turns and let me drive without their help!
Okay, stepping down off my soap box now. Have a great day!
