Well, for those of you that followed the Red Neck RV trip adventures, you know that we really enjoyed ourselves in a Driving Camper. On a Fall cruise, DH and I visited Bar Harbor, ME and decided it would be an awesome place to come back and visit with the kiddos. We started making plans and invited Nana to join us on our adventure and so the trip was scheduled. There were a few scheduling snafus before we got going, but everything seems to be in order now. :-)
DH and I started packing on Sunday night; we called Nana and compared shopping lists; we set aside clothes to be washed and made lists. The original plan called for one of us to follow the RV in our minivan so that we would have something to drive when we got to Maine. A quick mental mathmatic equation made us figure it would cheaper to just rent a car there, than to pay for the gas and wear and tear on our own vehicle. Plus, then we could all stick together in the RV.
Then we started thinking about packing. We decided it would be quicker to load everything into our two cars and drive over to the RV rental place and load up there, then it would be to go get the RV, bring it back, load it up and then basically drive by the rental place on our way out of town anyway! So, Tuesday night we started loading our cars. I had to make a last trip to the grocery store and wouldn't you know - there was a HUGE thunderstorm just as we were ready to get to work. Well, I went to the store in the raid anyway and the packing waited until I got home (and the raind had finally stopped). We packed quite a bit!!!
Wednesday morning the kids were up at 6am and ready to roll. DH and I were not so ready, as we had been up until midnight packing and making lists and just getting ready to go. But we finally got our rears in gear and got to work. We had everything loaded and ready to go by 8:15 - the goal had been 9am. So we decided to make a pit stop at Starbucks :-)
We drove to the RV rental place, secured our RV and started transfering our stuff from our two small vehicles, to the bohemouth we would be staying in for the next 7 days. Let me just tell you - this thing is BEAUTIFUL. It beats our camper from last year, hands down! It's one foot longer and has a slide (the couch and dinette wall slides out about 2 feet. The amount of living space we have is just tremendous! But I digress. So, we got everything loaded and started down the road. We stopped about an hour out for some lunch and then plugged on for Amsterdam, NY. There we met Nana and stayed in the driveway of Nana's sister. We had a lovely dinner and did some unpacking and moving in. Then it was time for sleep.
Thursday morning the kids were up at 5:30 - ready to go! Around 6:15 we headed into Aunt Kathi's house to see if anyone else was up. They ALL were!! Nana was showered and dressed and repacked and ready to go. We were on the road by 7:45. We stopped for gas and coffee down the road a bit and then we really got started.
Stay tuned. Thursday's adventures are to be continued.....
