The Sling

Who knew a boy could get hurt falling 18 inches out of the lower bunk?! Oye!!
We spent the long weekend up in Silver Lake, NY closing up the summer cottage. Saturday was a fun day - apple picking, pumpkin selecting, applesauce making, pumpkin carving....good times! Sunday was a fairly relaxing day as well. DH had to head home in the evening, as he had to work on Monday. The kids, Nana, Ginny and I loaded up the van and Mimi's car with stuff to take in "home" and started the trek around 6:15pm. Oye. It was a late night. We didn't get back to the cottage until about 9:30. Around 10:30, I heard DS fall out of bed and went up to help him find his pacifier and get settled back into bed. I went to bed around 12:30 and woke up to DS falling again at 1:30. This time he was crying and I had to sit with him for a while before he would settle down and go back to sleep. He was up again at 3 something crying. The dog needed dealing with around 6am. The kids were up by 7am. In short - there was not much sleep gained Sunday night/Monday morning!
At breakfast, DS refused to use his right arm and spent most of the day favoring it. When he did use it, unthinking, he cried out. And when I picked him up to put him into his car seat, he really screamed. SO, we finally headed home after another long morning of working around the cottage and called DH to meet us at the ER in Camp Hill. What a birthday surprise!
We arrived around 7pm. Did I mention the DS HATES doctors?! He was not very happy about the whole situation. He fussed quite a bit. The doctor couldn't feel anything out of place, so ordered some Tylenol with Codine and some Motrin, then an x-ray to verify things. By 8:30, I needed to take DD (and the dog) home. DH stayed with DS in the ER. They finally made it home a little after 10pm. DS in a sling. The x-rays showed nothing broken. But the doctor said to sling his arm for 2-3 days. If DS doesn't start using his arm again within that time frame, we are to take him to the orthopedist, as it could stunt his development if something is pinched, jammed, or anything other than broken. YAY!
So, today DD was tired and cranky, but had to go to school anyway. I had to wake DS to take her. That was not much fun. Can't pick him up - remember?! We made it to school with 5 minutes to spare, but DS threw up his breakfast bar in the car as we made the turn into the parking lot. YAY! So, dropped of DD, parked and cleaned up DS, then came home. Got him changed and dressed, clothes and sheets into the laundry. Now we're just hanging out watching some tv and in general having a "relaxing" day. I've finally gotten some caffine into my system and feel like I can keep my eyelids open for moments at a time!
Long story short - who knew a kid could get hurt falling 18 inches?!?!! Crazy, huh?
